2.1

When I enrolled in Dr. Hatten's class, I knew I had found my happy place. His instructional graphic course pushed my design limits and made me create things, I had never thought I could. By learning about the appropriate design procedures, my designs became more complete, complex, and interesting.  I was tasked with creating an instructional design plan and then graphics to accompany it. I was able to use these in my own classroom and share them with my school district to help teach space.

SPRING 2018

In the spring of 2018, I engaged in the inquiry process with a group of graduate-level students. We tested different applications and ended up using Duolingo. We looked at the usability of each app, its affordances, and its overall effectiveness. Each member of the team interviewed two individuals in a 20-30-minute interview in a relaxed and quiet room to avoid interviewees distraction. The participants were asked to complete seven tasks, which they were able to complete mostly without major difficulties. In the cases that they found difficulties with the use of the application they were able to solve the difficulties by themselves in a relatively effortless way.

2.3

Assessing/Evaluating – Candidates demonstrate an inquiry process that assesses the adequacy of learning and evaluates the instruction and implementation of educational technologies and processes grounded in reflective practice.

Standard 2.5

Ethics – Candidates design and select media, technology, and processes that emphasize the diversity of our society as a multicultural community.

2.5

In the course foundations of curriculum and instruction, the professor made me think of ideas and concepts that I would have not thought of. Some theories that I assumed were newer problems were hundreds of years old. I believe with effective training and implementation educational technology and web 2.0 applications would greatly benefit the world of education at this current juncture and chose to highlight this in my platform.  My class is compiled of about 25 10-11-year-old students, 50% of my class comes from affluent middle-class families while the other half comes from a farm. A large number of  Hispanic migrants from the farm often lack experiences and vocabulary. Their large learning gaps grow every year as many of them miss school due to moving twice a year.  These migrant students are constantly at risk for falling behind and we are working with these technologies to keep them on track.
